Have you ever noticed how some phrases seem rather dumb? I’m referring to paradoxical phrases or to be more specific, oxymorons. For instance, doesn’t “pretty ugly” seem totally absurd and self-contradictory? Come on! Pretty is to be beautiful and ugly is the exact opposite. Well anyway, I have made up word quizzes using such ridiculous phrases. I think they’re funny. I hope you get a kick out of them too. I’ll give you an example to illustrate how the game works.
Use each clue to determine the two-word oxymoron.
Example: huge small Answer: jumbo shrimp
- nice sorrow
- unfavorable fortunate
- sick well-being
- few mob
- dark illumination
Quiz your friends and see what answers they come up with.
BTW, this puzzle is on page 100 of my book Smart Is as Smart Does. The puzzles in the book have five additional oxymorons to determine.
